Internships at SOME
Interns at SOME are an integral part of our mission to empower and transform our community. Interning at SOME allows students to engage and network with career professionals while also gaining an understanding of working in a non-profit setting.
General Requirements
- At least 18 years old at the start of the internship
- Must be a student or recent graduate from a post-secondary education program
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to collaborate within a multicultural environment
- Experience serving clients of varying backgrounds and demographics.
- Applicants are required to submit a resume, cover letter, and one letter of recommendation to be considered for an internship. The letter must come from a current or former professor, employer, or community leader.

Application Process
1. Internship Listing
Internships are generally listed in January, April, and September on our website.
2. Requirement Submission
Applicants are required to submit a resume, cover letter, and one letter of recommendation to be considered for the position. The letter must come from a current or former professor, employer, or community leader. Your application will not be considered if you are missing any of these documents.
3. Next Stage
A week after the application deadline, applicants will be notified if they will be moving on to the next stage, and the department supervisor will set up an interview for the position.
4. Decision
Within 3 weeks after having completed the interview, candidates will receive a decision letter with further information.
Available Internships
Position: A.B.L.E. Program Intern
Location: Fully Onsite at Isaiah House, Washington, DC 20001
Duration: Spring 2026; Jan – May 2026
Hours: Approximately 20 Hours per week; 8 am – 1:00 pm Monday – Friday. The number of hours weekly can be adjusted
based on school schedule.

Compensation:Unpaid. Academic credit may be available depending on school policies.
Position Overview: The A.B.L.E. Program — Activate, Believe, Learn, Elevate — is committed to helping individuals unlock
their full potential through structured support, meaningful engagement, and personal growth. The program fosters a
positive, empowering environment that encourages participants to build confidence, gain skills, and elevate their daily lives.
The A.B.L.E. Intern provides direct support to daily programming at Isaiah House. Interns assist with group and one-on-one
sessions, prepare and serve snacks, help with activities, and ensure the environment remains clean and welcoming. This
role is ideal for students or early professionals interested in human services, education, psychology, or community
support.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate Group Sessions: Lead or assist with group activities focused on social skills, creativity, self-expression, and personal development.
- Provide One-on-One Support: Offer individualized encouragement and assistance aligned with participant goals.
- Prepare Snacks: Help prepare and distribute light snacks to participants.
- Support Daily Activities: Assist with planning and running activities such as arts & crafts, life skills training, recreational games, or exercises.
- Maintain Clean Environment: Perform basic cleaning tasks to ensure a safe, welcoming space (e.g., wiping tables, organizing supplies, sanitizing high-touch areas, sweeping, mopping, and restrooms).
- Build Positive Relationships: Interact respectfully and supportively with all participants to foster trust and encouragement.
- Collaborate with Staff: Communicate regularly with program staff to ensure smooth delivery of services.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Remain flexible and willing to step in where needed.

Position: Volunteer Management Intern
Location: 71 O St NW, Washington, D.C.
Duration: Fall 2025
Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week Interns are required to be on-site at least 2-3 days per week.
Reports to: Volunteer Services Team
Position Overview: SOME is seeking a dedicated and organized Volunteer Management Intern to support our Volunteer Services Team. This individual will help coordinate volunteer activities, engage with volunteers at the Father John Adams Resource Center, recruit new volunteers, schedule volunteer groups, and conduct surveys to assess volunteer experiences. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in nonprofit work, community engagement, and volunteer coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with Volunteers: Welcome, support, and assist volunteers entering the Father John Adams Resource Center to ensure a meaningful experience.
- Volunteer Recruitment: Support outreach efforts to recruit new volunteers, including promoting opportunities and responding to inquiries.
- Scheduling Groups: Assist in scheduling and coordinating volunteer groups for various programs and events.
- Conduct Volunteer Surveys: Collect and analyze volunteer feedback to help improve SOME’s volunteer programs.
- Data Entry & Documentation: Maintain accurate volunteer records, track participation, and assist in reporting volunteer engagement metrics.
- Communications & Outreach: Support communication efforts, including email correspondence, phone calls, and assisting with volunteer newsletters or social media engagement.
- Event Support: Assist in planning and executing volunteer appreciation events and engagement activities.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as needed to support the Volunteer Services Team.
Ideal Candidate
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree program in Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and willingness to learn volunteer management software.

Position: Social Work Intern
Location: Fully Onsite at Single Adult Housing Facility, Texas Ave SE, WDC 20020.
Duration: Fall 2025
Hours: Approximately 10 – 15 hours per week; Tuesday & Thursday
Reports to: Tyonna Belle
Compensation: Unpaid. Academic credit may be available depending on school policies.
Position Overview: SOME’s housing programs provide comprehensive wellness support for single adults, focusing on enhancing emotional and social health. This internship provides hands-on experience, offering an opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a real-world setting. The intern will assist with various aspects of the housing program with the main focus being case management and wellness planning support to the residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Connect residents with supportive community resources.
- Assist in creating wellness plans with residents.
- Assist with day-to-day administrative operations of the program.
- Observe and conduct individual sessions with residents.
- Maintain progress notes on activities and interactions with residents.
Ideal Candidate
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a Bachelor’s or Master’s of Social Work program.
- Excellent communication, research, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Experience with client-facing roles or administrative tasks is a plus.
- Commitment to SOME’s mission of serving those experiencing poverty and homelessness with dignity and respect.
