Our Approach to Education and Training

We apply our Whole Person approach to education and training, creating an environment where our trainees can move themselves out of poverty and into living wage careers.

Applicants are not required to have a high school diploma or GED. However, if they do have one they’re asked to submit it as part of their application. Trainees accepted into a CET program are evaluated with a CASAS test, which tests basic and academic skills in real-world contexts.

We recognize that skills like math, reading and grammar are crucial to career development, and establishing a baseline helps us better meet the unique needs of our trainees. Our programs merge basic skills instruction with on-the-job training. Our instructors are industry experts and adult educators; the combination of which creates a rich learning environment.

CET addresses the barriers that have historically prevented students from achieving long-term success. Trainees receive comprehensive employment preparation, including case management and financial literacy workshops. Life skills are further strengthened through one-on-one counseling and psychoeducational group sessions.
This component also includes a strong focus on retention. Graduates are contacted monthly for up to 12 months following program completion to monitor employment status and provide ongoing support. Incentives are offered to encourage and reward sustained full-time employment.

Trainees build vocational competencies through hands-on training with industry-standard tools and equipment. Learning is reinforced through industry presentations, field trips, and experiential opportunities that expose trainees to real-world work environments.
To ensure mastery, trainees must successfully complete competency-based assessments throughout the program, confirming a thorough understanding of each content area before progressing.

Our Talent Development Department provides students, graduates, and employer partners with a lifelong network of support. Following graduation, participants receive continued services such as job coaching, monthly follow-ups, and individualized support to ensure success in the workplace and alignment with employer expectations.
SOME CET also supports long-term career growth through ongoing career planning, mentoring, alumni engagement, and professional development opportunities, including after-work seminars.
