District neighbors, while you purchase food to support your family this month, consider shopping at your local Safeway store. This month SOME (So Others Might Eat) is partnering with eight Safeway stores across DC to raise money for SOME’s Breakfast for Kids program (SBFK) through Safeway Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors fundraiser.

In Washington, D.C., 1 in 10 residents cannot afford enough to eat—and nearly one-quarter of those residents are children, according to DC Hunger Solutions. SOME has partnered with Safeway and Albertsons Companies to try to change that.

In December 2021, SOME was awarded the Nourishing Neighbors Grant from Safeway’s Breakfast for Kids Fundraiser, whereby funds were raised at eight local grocery stores, to ensure that the over 300 school-aged children living within SOME’s Family Services program have access to healthy, nutritious breakfast options when public school breakfast is not served—during spring break, summer months, and winter break.

SOME is grateful for our partnership with Safeway and Albertsons Companies to help us provide children with the solid nutritional foundation needed to thrive in their daily lives.
