Safe and Dignified Housing
Introduction
SOME offers permanent, affordable housing at Kuehner House (Ward 8) and Karin House (Ward 4) for seniors to remain independent in a dignified, professionally managed setting. With a range of amenities and personalized services provided by SOME’s Senior Services’ Team, SOME’s Senior Housing program includes efficiency apartment homes and single room occupancy units. Residents share a bathroom, kitchen, and laundry facilities with two to three other residents. SOME’s Senior Services utilizes a holistic, whole person care approach to enrich and empower the lives of DC’s seniors. Their staff ensure seniors maintain their independent and improve their quality of life by assisting with resource navigation, age-appropriate programming, and a wide array of nutritional access and food services.

Eligibility: Participants must be/have:
- A resident of DC
- Age of 55+ for our NW location, 60+ for SE location
- Make less than $1,900 a month
- Have a negative TB test within the past 12 months
- Six months of sobriety for permanent housing, 3 months for transitional housing
- Capable of self-care or have home health aide services in place
- No history of violence
- Not on the lifetime sexual offenders list
Emergency Housing for Abused and Neglected Seniors
SOME provides emergency housing for seniors who have been abused, neglected, financially exploited, or displaced at Kuehner Place. Kuehner Place is a temporary (90-day), transitional housing program.
Services
- Residents are assigned to a single room
- Three hot nutritionist meals are provided daily
- Support in obtaining healthcare benefits
- Support in obtaining affordable, long-term housing
- Access to supportive services, including healthcare
- Financial literacy planning supported
- 10pm curfew
- Medication monitoring
- Support groups and meetings
