NBA Foundation Renews Support of SOME to Strengthen Workforce Pathways for D.C. Youth

We’re proud to share that SOME (So Others Might Eat) has once again been selected as a grantee of the NBA Foundation, as part of its 14th and largest round of funding to date. This latest investment affirms the NBA Foundation’s ongoing commitment to workforce development and economic mobility for Black youth and young adults in under-resourced communities across the U.S. and Canada.

SOME is honored to be among 82 organizations receiving a share of $16.3 million to build career pathways in industries spanning healthcare, criminal justice reform, creative arts, and more. Since the Foundation’s inception in 2020, it has committed over $140 million in funding and reached more than 770,000 youth aged 14–24—empowering them to build brighter futures through mentorship, job training, and access to meaningful employment.

At SOME, this renewed funding will help us continue our mission of breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness by equipping D.C. youth with the skills, support, and career-readiness tools they need to thrive. Whether it’s through our Center for Employment Training (CET), behavioral health programs, or wraparound workforce services, we know that opportunity changes everything—and with partners like the NBA Foundation, we’re able to go further, together.

As Ruth Jurgensen, Executive Director of the NBA Foundation, put it:

“We are thrilled to announce this latest round of funding… These organizations exemplify the NBA Foundation’s mission of creating equitable access to opportunity.”

We are deeply grateful to the NBA Foundation for continuing to believe in our work and in the potential of the young people we serve. Together, we’re not just opening doors—we’re building futures.
