Measuring SOME's Impact
Calculating SOME’s Social Return on Investment in the DC Community
One of our central goals is to grow our performance measurement capabilities into a comprehensive system that fully leverages data to drive enduring social impact for our clients.
To measure the impact of SOME’s services, we partnered with the Urban Institute on a robust, year-long evaluation of our programs. Together, we used the Social Return on Investment (SROI) method, which assigns a dollar value to an activity or action.
Connecting to Our Strategic Plan
SOME’s strategic plan is founded on core principles that prioritize a comprehensive approach to client service, encompassing various aspects of well-being. We strive to address the emotional, behavioral, physical, spiritual, financial, and behavioral dimensions of our clients’ lives.
The social return on investment report provides us with a valuable opportunity to assess our advancement in the realm of whole-person care and enhance our organizational efficiency and resource utilization. Through this report, we can analyze our progress holistically and make more informed decisions as an organization.
Social Impact Formula
Through rigorous data collection, analysis, and evaluation, our Social Impact Formula enables SOME to identify key performance indicators, track progress, and make informed decisions about resource allocation. It ensures that every dollar donated has a meaningful and measurable impact on homelessness prevention, job training, mental health services, and other critical areas of support provided by SOME.
Additionally, donors can have confidence in knowing exactly where their contributions are going and the difference they are making in the lives of those served by SOME. By promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency, this formula serves as a beacon of trust and empowerment, fostering a stronger and more resilient DC community.
The Importance of Determining SOME’s Social Impact
As one of the largest human services providers in DC, SOME has a tremendous impact on the individuals and families we serve.
Based on the data we captured and analysis we performed using the SROI formula, we discovered that SOME’s services created approximately $271,257,771.99 worth of social value in 2020 and 2021, or $53.61 of return for every dollar invested.
With this report, it is our goal to inform our staff members, in-kind and monetary donors, and volunteers of the life-changing impact that their support of SOME’s mission has in disrupting the cycle of poverty and homelessness in our region.
Our data-driven approach allows us to evaluate and then quickly expand our comprehensive Whole Person Care system.
