Donations Come in All Shapes, Sizes, and Ages: Meet Mathias Sokolov, a Young Changemaker

At SOME, we’re constantly inspired by the generosity of our community, and support comes from people of all ages and backgrounds. Recently, we were especially moved by a young community member, Mathias Sokolov, who stepped up in an incredible way to make a difference. At just 11 years old, Mathias ran a lemonade stand, donating his entire earnings of $148 to support our mission. But it didn’t stop there—Mathias also wrote a heartfelt, handwritten letter to SOME’s President, Ralph Boyd, asking that the money go toward helping those in need.

Mathias’ lemonade stand, set up with care and purpose, was more than just a neighborhood refreshment spot; it was a powerful display of empathy and dedication. Every cup of lemonade he served was poured with the hope of providing comfort, food, and shelter for those facing hardship. His letter, filled with kindness and determination, expressed his wish to help our homeless neighbors and make a meaningful impact in their lives.

The generosity Mathias showed is a beautiful reminder that the spirit of giving knows no age limit. In his words, he hoped that his contribution could “make someone’s day a little brighter,” and his efforts have already brought joy and encouragement to our entire team. Mathias’ donation will go directly toward programs and services that support individuals and families on their path to stability and independence.

Young changemakers like Mathias remind us of the power of compassion and the difference one person—regardless of age—can make. Thank you, Mathias, for leading by example and showing us all that with a little creativity and a lot of heart, each of us has the power to bring hope and help to those in need.

We hope Mathias’ story inspires others in our community to take action, whether through small acts or grand gestures. Every donation and every moment of service brings us closer to creating a city where everyone has a place to call home.
