SOME’s Center for Employment Training (CET) has partnered with The Smithsonian Institution to launch a new 12-week career development program for trainees pursuing careers in the building trades. This unique opportunity provides hands-on experience and professional guidance, including support with completing USA Jobs applications, opening a pathway to potential employment within the federal government.
Twice a year, two groups of 4 to 5 CET trainees will be selected to participate in the cohort. Through this partnership, trainees will engage directly with Smithsonian staff and gain valuable insight into federal facilities management operations. Participants recently interviewed with several managers from various Smithsonian museums as well as the Associate Director of Facilities Learning + Development from the Office of Facilities Management and Reliability.
This collaboration marks an exciting step forward in expanding real-world career readiness for CET students, while strengthening pathways to long-term employment and advancement.
