New Doors Open at SOME’s Flagship Facility

SOME is proud to announce the grand opening of the Father John Adams Resource Center, a thoughtfully designed facility that will bring expanded services, enhanced support, and renewed hope to our community. With a commitment to Whole Person Care, this center is set to strengthen the resources we offer to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty.

A Place of Comfort and Community The Father John Adams Resource Center will be a sanctuary for those in need, with the newly renovated dining room now able to serve 130 people per seating. Before renovations, SOME served approximately 400 individuals for breakfast, 400 for lunch, and provided an additional 200 meals for our transitional housing programs each day. This space now includes trauma-informed design elements, featuring natural light and calming colors, as well as updated kitchen facilities, client and volunteer lockers, and AV capability in the dining room. These upgrades will create a welcoming and supportive environment, helping clients to feel safe and respected during each visit.

Expanded and Essential Services The new facility also includes essential resources for clients. In 2023, our team distributed over 41,000 pieces of mail for individuals without stable addresses, a vital service in helping them stay connected with loved ones, healthcare providers, and employment opportunities. Additionally, a restored clothing room will return to the building, ensuring that clients have access to necessary clothing items year-round. The center includes individual shower rooms, washers and dryers, and restrooms—all designed to promote dignity and ease for those using these essential amenities.

A Holistic Approach to Community Care The Father John Adams Resource Center exemplifies SOME’s commitment to comprehensive support through our Whole Person Care model. As clients access the dining room, they enter a pathway to a range of services, including Employment Training (CET), Healthcare, Rehabilitative Services, and Affordable Housing. Partnerships with organizations like DC Central Kitchen, Capital Area Food Bank, and Pacers Running also enable us to enhance our support, from providing nutritious meals to offering health-promoting resources like proper footwear and medical assistance for chronic conditions.

The Power of Support and Community In 2023 alone, over 224,000 meals were served to community members, with 74,000+ DC residents struggling with food insecurity. As we navigate uncertain economic times and potential budget shortfalls, continued community support remains crucial to our mission. With your help, we can ensure that no individual goes without food, housing, or essential healthcare, even in challenging times. Together, we can create lasting impact and continue providing the whole-person care that sets SOME apart.
