About SOME Center for Employment Training

SOME Center for
Employment Training
The SOME Center for Employment Training’s (SOME CET) mission is to empower people out of homelessness and poverty and into living wage careers through hard and soft skills training, adult basic education and career development.

SOME CET is based upon a nationally recognized model that has been used to train and place over 100,000 students in jobs. The training model uses a holistic approach, integrating hands-on skill training in a simulated work environment.

SOME CET provides training to prepare individuals for careers as Medical Administrative Assistants and Building Maintenance Service Technicians. Students earn occupational credentials and certifications.

Medical Administrative Assistant
Students learn about allied health professions, health care communications, medical records and billing, computer training, reception and clerical skills.

Building Maintenance Service Technician
Students learn carpentry, electrical engineering, plumbing, HVAC,
and safety standards.

Electronic Health Records
Students learn to manage Electronic Health Records systems and to
perform tasks such as billings, record verification and reporting.

SOME CET recognizes that education is critical to career development. Students develop reading, grammar, writing and comprehension skills that are pertinent to their skills training area.

SOME CET is focused on developing careers. Trainees work with the Center’s job developer to identify employment tracks, participate in mock interviews, attend resume workshops and develop a Career Development Plan.

Finally, SOME CET teaches the “soft skills” that are essential to obtaining and maintaining employment. These skills include time management, developing motivation, personal responsibility, conflict management, customer service and interpersonal skills development.
