Preparing the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals with Kaiser Permanence

CET’s recent visit to Kaiser Permanente (Largo Medical Center) marked an exciting milestone in connecting workforce training to real-world career pathways. More than 35 healthcare trainees participated in this experiential learning opportunity, gaining firsthand insight into healthcare operations, workplace culture, and the wide range of employment opportunities available within a major healthcare system.

During the visit, trainees engaged directly with Kaiser Permanente staff, asking thoughtful questions and learning from professionals who shared their own career journeys. Staff at Largo Medical Center noted how engaged and curious the students were throughout the experience, emphasizing that their professionalism made the interactions especially meaningful. For many team members, it was rewarding to see how their time, expertise, and personal stories could help students envision long-term careers in healthcare.

Experiences like this underscore the importance of programs like SOME’s Center for Employment Training (CET), which are designed to move individuals beyond short-term jobs and into sustainable, long-term careers. By combining classroom instruction with hands-on exposure and employer partnerships, CET helps trainees build confidence, expand their professional networks, and take concrete steps toward employment.

We are grateful for this partnership and look forward to continuing the conversation in 2026 as we work together to create more opportunities for career exploration, workforce development, and economic stability for our community.
