This spring, SOME’s Center for Employment Training hosted an inspiring Healthcare Futures panel for our trainees. The event brought together a dynamic group of healthcare professionals whose expertise spanned obstetrics, oncology, emergency care, gynecology, and federal healthcare policy. Panelists included Shennelle Johnson, BSN, RN, Emergency Care Specialist; Nyja Harrison, BSN, RN, Oncology Specialist; Jazmine Senn, MSN, WHNP-BC, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner; and Breeanna Holmes, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, Federal Healthcare and Insurance Expert.
Throughout the seminar, panelists shared not only their clinical expertise but also their personal journeys. They spoke candidly about balancing parenting while earning degrees, overcoming academic challenges, and finding sustainable work-life balance in demanding healthcare careers. Their honesty and real-world advice resonated deeply with CET trainees, many of whom are working to overcome their own barriers as they pursue new career paths.
These conversations offered far more than career guidance. They provided hope, perspective, and motivation to keep moving forward. As one trainee shared afterward, it was encouraging to hear how they pushed through setbacks. It makes me believe I can do it too.
At SOME CET, job training goes beyond technical skills. It is about equipping individuals with the confidence, support, and resources they need to achieve long-term success. Events like this panel serve as powerful reminders of just how impactful that support can be.
