Bringing Beauty to the Block

On Earth Day (April 22), there were a handful of ways to get involved with SOME to enhance and beautify our community! Earth Day is a special annual occasion where people worldwide come together to take action to protect our planet.

One of the beautification projects, hosted by our Young Professionals Network, was a volunteer activity at Gandhi House (housing for SOME’s year-long volunteers). Participants received a custom event t-shirt, breakfast sandwiches, and donated to SOME (via registration) to help cover the cost of materials.

Additionally, Target staff volunteered to renovate the courtyard at Kuehner House, which houses over 40 seniors. The renovation aimed to reduce isolation, increase social engagement, and promote health and wellness for seniors in need. This was made possible by a generous grant awarded by Target!

Similarly, at our main SOME location, 60 O Street NW, volunteers planted flowers in new mulch and cleaned up the area to make the site look more welcoming for guests.

Overall, SOME volunteers were active all over DC this past Earth Day! The successful events brought together many organizations and individuals to make a positive impact on the environment. By coming together and taking action, we can protect our planet and make our communities better places to live. Let’s continue to celebrate Earth Day and work towards a more sustainable future.
