D.C. United Inspires SOME Students Through “Soccer & Soar”

Recently, students in the Center for Employment Training (CET) at So Others Might Eat had the opportunity to connect with professionals from D.C. United through the club’s community outreach initiative, Soccer & Soar. The visit brought together nearly 60 participants from SOME’s workforce training programs for a conversation focused on career exploration, perseverance, and the power of community.

Members of D.C. United’s front office shared insights from their own professional journeys and gave students a closer look at the many careers that support a professional sports organization, including marketing, operations, community engagement, and business development. The conversation also provided students with valuable advice about navigating career paths, building confidence, and staying committed to their goals.

For many participants, the event offered a unique opportunity to connect with professionals outside their immediate field of training. Students enrolled in SOME’s healthcare and skilled trades programs asked thoughtful questions, shared their career aspirations, and discussed the importance of teamwork, communication, and persistence in any profession.

Programs like SOME’s Center for Employment Training are designed to help individuals move beyond immediate hardship and toward long term stability. Through hands on training, supportive services, and career preparation, CET equips participants with the skills and confidence needed to secure meaningful employment and build brighter futures.

Community partnerships like this one play a vital role in expanding opportunities for SOME students. By bringing industry professionals into the classroom and creating spaces for mentorship and conversation, organizations like D.C. United help inspire participants as they prepare for the next chapter of their careers.

At SOME, we are grateful for partners who invest their time and energy into uplifting our community. Experiences like Soccer & Soar remind students that their goals are within reach and that a strong network of support stands behind them as they work toward independence and success.
