At SOME’s Senior Center, self-care and community go hand in hand. Recently, seniors were treated to a Day of Pampering, an event dedicated to providing relaxation, grooming, and a confidence boost for those we serve.
With the help of dedicated volunteers and interns, the day featured haircuts, manicures, pedicures, and even makeup sessions—turning the center into a mini spa for our seniors to enjoy.
Meet the Volunteers Who Made It Happen
One of the highlights of the event was the presence of Alem Tmichael, a devoted volunteer who has been generously donating her time and skills for over two years. Alem visits the Senior Center monthly to provide free haircuts, helping seniors look and feel their best. Her continued commitment to the community has made a lasting impact, and the seniors always look forward to her visits.
Additionally, we were thrilled to have Kourtney, an intern from Howard University’s School of Occupational Therapy, serving as the day’s nail technician. She provided manicures and pedicures, adding an extra touch of care that made the seniors feel truly special.
More Than Just Beauty – A Boost of Confidence and Connection
For many seniors, moments like these go beyond physical self-care. A fresh haircut or a neatly polished set of nails can restore confidence and spark joy, but just as important is the sense of connection these events bring. Laughter and conversation filled the room as participants shared stories, enjoyed each other’s company, and celebrated a well-deserved day of relaxation.
At SOME, we believe in uplifting our community through both essential services and meaningful experiences that foster dignity and joy. Thanks to our volunteers, interns, and staff, this Day of Pampering was a heartwarming reminder that a little self-care can go a long way.
Would you like to get involved and make a difference? SOME is always looking for passionate volunteers to help us continue creating special moments for our seniors and other members of the community. Learn more about how you can help at some.org/volunteer
