Donate Goods
We rely on donated materials of many kinds to serve our clients. All material donations to SOME are tax-deductible. SOME does not sell any of the donated items it receives, but distributes them free of charge to individuals in need.

Drop-Off Location and Hours

Our main drop-off location for material donations is 71 O Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001. We are open to receive donations from 7:30am-4:00pm during the week, or 8:00am-2:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. We will offer you a donation receipt for your tax records when you drop off your donation.

Food Drive

Are you organizing a food drive? Thank you! You can download and use this food drive flier to help promote your event.

If you are having a large food drive that may require pick-up service, please contact our Donations Coordinator at 202.797.8806, ext. 2104 or Our driver and truck are extremely busy, so we are only able to offer pick-up service for large food drive collections.

SOME distributes new and gently used donations of clothing, free of charge, for men, women and children. We ask that donors give only clothing items appropriate for the season in which they are dropped off. Clothing should be laundered and free of tears or stains. It is a great help to us if men’s, women’s and children’s items are bagged separately.

By far our greatest need is in the area of men’s clothing.

We are particularly seeking the following items:

  • Thermals
  • Winter coats/jackets
  • Gloves
  • Hats

  • Scarves
  • Men’s jeans
  • Men’s shoes and boots
  • New underwear and socks

Shoebox Gifts

We collect shoeboxes decorated for the holidays and brimming with gifts and essential items (see list below) for homeless or poor children, women and men.

All shoebox gifts should contain a hat, scarf, pair of gloves, socks, underwear, soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste and toothbrush.
For women, please also include sanitary napkins and/or tampons and deodorant.
For men, please also include razors and deodorant.
For children, please also include a small gift or toy.

Gifts cards are greatly appreciated, too, but optional. If you choose to include them, please have them from stores such as Giant, Safeway, CVS or Walgreens. Do not include cash, food, candy or mouthwash.

We are collecting shoeboxes through Thursday, December 11, 2014.

Please wrap or decorate your shoebox lids and boxes separately. On the lids, attach a list of the items included in the box and label the box, “child,” “woman,” or “man,” and deliver to SOME, 71 O Street, NW, Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm or on the weekends, from 7:00am to 2:00pm.

To arrange a pick-up for large amounts of shoebox gifts, please our Donations Coordinator at 202.797.8806, ext. 2104 or
