Affordable Housing for Single Adults

The goal of our Affordable Housing for Single Adults is to provide safe, affordable, long-term housing with supportive services available for single adults (18 years of age or older), including the elderly and disabled, who have low incomes and/or have experienced homelessness.

SOME owns and manages nearly 500 units of housing for single adults at the properties shown below. We offer Single Room Occupancy (SRO) units and efficiency apartments. SRO residents have private bedrooms and share lounges, dining rooms, kitchens and bathrooms. Each SRO and efficiency unit is furnished. All residents are required to sign a lease with SOME and to pay rent (30% of their gross monthly income).

Developing Housing

SOME has been developing and managing affordable housing for more than 25 years. In 2005, in response to the District’s severe affordable housing shortage, SOME launched the Affordable Housing Development Initiative with a goal of creating 1,000 new units of affordable housing. To date, SOME is well more than halfway to its Initiative goal, with 746 units completed or in development.

Of the properties shown above, Freedom House, Bedford Falls, Chabraja House, Gasner House, Kuehner House and Marian’s House were developed through the Initiative. We have three additional projects under development, including the Building Hope project.
