Host Hotels & Resorts Lends a Hand to So Others Might Eat
September 29, 2017
Corporate Responsibility has been a core value to Host Hotels & Resorts for many years, rooted in our culture, the corporate values that guide the way we do business and our commitment to the environment and to society. Our corporate giving program is driven by the strong support of our employees who are actively engaged in community service activities. As an employee-driven program, we support the causes they care about most through our charitable giving as well as our Service team—a group of passionate employee volunteers who help select, organize and led community service events for the company. This year, SOME was voted on by our employees as one of our 2017 charities of the month, where employees may donate part of their paycheck or paid time off. Host matches each employee’s donation and makes an additional financial contribution. Additionally, SOME was chosen by our Service team as an organization we’d like to support due to its admirable mission of serving the poor and homeless in our local community and breaking the cycle of homelessness.
On August 8, 2017, 30 Host employees volunteered at SOME’s Dining Room in Washington, D.C. Volunteers helped prepare and serve a hot, nourishing lunch to disadvantaged guests. Other volunteers helped sort food donations and packed 100 emergency food bags. In addition to lending a hand, we also donated 15 boxes of canned foods and toiletry items to SOME, thanks to generous donations from our employees. As Tracy Dunkins, service event team lead said,“Volunteering at SOME was a very humbling experience. Too often we take the essentials of life for granted. Having the opportunity to serve an underprivileged community in our nation’s capital was very rewarding. I would definitely volunteer again”
It was a very rewarding experience that brought our employees together to help restore hope and dignity one person at a time. Through monetary donations, volunteerism and more, Host is proud to make a positive difference in our community by supporting SOME.
