Greetings from Camp!
July 26, 2016
SOME’s Senior Summer Camp is in full swing! This annual event was established in 1980 to offer a week-long respite for low-income seniors, many of whom have never been on vacation.
The vacation takes place at a beautiful air conditioned retreat house in West Virginia with woods, gardens and ponds, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city and a world away from the concerns many of our seniors face on a daily basis.
Staff and volunteers provide an enriching, fun-filled week for 120 older adults that includes nature walks, exercise classes, delicious food, arts & crafts, bingo, music and companionship. Some campers just choose to relax on a porch swing, listen to the birds chirp, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
One camper shared “God is good! I cannot thank you enough for this experience. I am a caregiver for my brother with dementia; this experience has been a blessing for me.”
