SOME’s Annual Holiday Shoebox Gift Drive
Holiday Shoebox Gift Drive

This holiday season, we invite you to participate in SOME’s annual Holiday Shoebox Gift Drive.

Exchanging Holiday Shoeboxes at SOMEWe collect shoeboxes decorated for the holidays and brimming with essential items and gifts (see list below) for homeless or poor children, women and men.

Your gift boxes will be given out or delivered over the holidays* to all who come to SOME for meals and services and to those who are residents in SOME’s housing. (*Excess items will be kept and distributed to those in need throughout the year.)

We are particularly in need of shoebox gifts for men and women.

We are collecting shoeboxes through Friday, December 8.

Please wrap or decorate your shoebox lids and box separately. On the lids label the box, “child,” “woman” or “man.” For a complete list of what should go in each box, download the Shoebox Gift 2017 list.

Shoebox Gift Contents List

To make sure that we are distributing boxes in a fair and consistent manner, please include only one of each of the requested items.

All shoebox gifts should contain:

  • 5 Clothing Items: One hat, scarf, pair of gloves, one pair of socks, one pair of underwear
  • 7 Hygiene Items: One travel size each: soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant and razors (2).
    • For women, please also include 5-10 sanitary napkins and/or tampons;
    • For children, please also include a small gift or toy.

Gifts cards are greatly appreciated but optional. If you choose to include them, Whole Foods Market, Giant, Safeway, CVS or Walgreens are the preferred stores. Please do not include cash, food, candy or mouthwash. If you decide to donate gift cards, please donate them in a separate envelope so that they can be distributed in a fair and equitable manner. Please give them directly to a SOME staff member.

To arrange a pick-up for large amounts of shoebox gifts, please contact our Donations Manager at 202.797.8806, ext. 2104 or [email protected].

Don’t have time to make it down to us on O Street? We’re partnering with Whole Foods Market on this year’s drive! You can purchase available items at Whole Foods Market locations in DC, Northern Virginia and Montgomery County and drop in on-site donation bins for delivery to SOME.
