Program Highlights

SOME has created 100 dignified affordable apartments and single private rooms for families and single adults and has an additional 326 units ready for development towards our goal of providing 1,000 units that will be home to more than 2,000 homeless men, women and children.

The District of Columbia continues to experience a severe shortage of affordable housing. In recent years, thousands of affordable homes have been replaced by expensive upscale commercial, retail and residential development.

To help fill the gap, SOME launched the Affordable Housing Development Initiative with a goal of building 1,000 new units.  Towards that end, we are working to raise $20 million to leverage at least $130 million in public and private financing.

William Conway, Chairman of SOME’s Housing Development Initiative, has helped SOME get off to a good start with a $5 million pledge from his Bedford Falls Foundation.  Mr. Conway believes strongly that, “the homeless and poor should have a decent, affordable place to live with the supportive services they need to help break the cycle of homelessness.  I have been very blessed in my life, and I am honored to partner with other friends of SOME to help meet this great need in our city.”

You, too, can become a partner in our Housing Development Initiative.   Help us to provide safe, affordable homes for our poor and homeless neighbors who have turned their lives around. The stability that a safe and dignified home provides is a critical component of SOME’s continuum of care.
