Senior Summer Camp

A group of SOME campers and volunteers gather for a meal.

A pair of seniors enjoy craft time.

SOME's Senior Summer Camp is a week long retreat at a beautiful country house in West Virginia for senior citizens who are in need of rest and relaxation but are unable to afford a vacation. One hundred and thirty seniors from the inner-city, many who rarely have had vacations out of the city in the past, are able to spend a week in the fresh air at a lovely vacation home on the banks of the Opequon Creek.

Group activities, abundant food and arts and crafts are just some of the joys these low-income seniors experience at SOME's Senior Summer Camp. Two week-long sessions are held every summer. The camp is staffed completely by over 25 volunteers, many of whom are seniors themselves.

You can support our efforts by sending a senior to camp now. $50 provides the cost for a senior to attend one day and $250 covers the cost of the full 5 days.

Here's what some of last year's campers had to say:

Jennifer, a 72 year old who was never allowed to go to camp as a child, let us know that her "mother is in heaven." She then, looked up and exclaimed, "See. I'm in camp now, mom!"

Linda has been hearing about the wonderful times her friends have had at SOME's Senior Summer Camp for years and told us that she was amazed because "everything they said was true."

Margaret, through tears talked about her arrival at the camp, "I have never been welcomed like that in my entire life. It was wonderful!"
