Why We Give: Cassaday & Company, Inc.

Cassaday & Company, Inc. is committed to giving back and making the greatest impact possible through charitable giving and volunteer efforts, and is proud to support SOME (So Others Might Eat) year after year.

Cassaday & Company, Inc. employees serve over 300 lunches at So Others Might Eat in October 2016. The firm also sent groups in November and December.

In 2008, we established the Cassaday & Company Charitable Fund based on the idea that we could have a much greater impact working collectively rather than through individual charitable donations. The mission of the fund is “to support individuals and organizations with the goal of creating opportunities that otherwise would not exist by providing basic necessities such as food, water, medical care, refuge, shelter, sanctuary, education and training.” SOME was unanimously voted on as one of the beneficiary organizations of the fund due to their mission of serving the poor and homeless in our nation’s capital.

“The efforts SOME places on breaking the cycle of homelessness by going above and beyond and offering services such as job training, addiction treatment, and counseling in addition to providing the immediate daily needs of food, clothing and healthcare is truly remarkable,” says Steve Cassaday, President and CEO of Cassaday & Company, Inc. “They provide critical support to the most needy and vulnerable in our community, and we are pleased to support them in any way we can. I am very gratified to see the young people at our firm go all in on the charitable giving concept with such enthusiasm.”

Employees are given the option to donate part of their paychecks to the fund, and Cassaday & Company, Inc. matches all employee contributions at 200% (providing additional incentive for employees to give back). Due to the growth of the fund since its inception, our donations to SOME have grown by an average of 34% year-over-year since the first distribution in 2010.

In addition to monetary contributions we also donate our time. For several years, we have organized volunteer days for staff members to volunteer at SOME. Though not required, 100% of the employees have participated in these efforts. In fact, we’ve had to increase the number of volunteer days we offer each year due to staff engagement and interest in this great cause.

Cassaday Director of Advanced Strategies, Carmen Bississo, Chief Operating Officer, Allison Felix, and her son participate in the 2016 Trot for Hunger.

We are also proud supporters of SOME’s Trot for Hunger, the annual 5K race on Thanksgiving Day which provides essential support for the poor and homeless, and helps ensure that hungry DC residents have a hot meal on the holiday as well as every other day of the year. Cassaday employees have both sponsored and/or participated in the event for the past few years.

“Volunteering really brings people together for the greater good. We’re blessed to have the opportunity to work with SOME. The services they provide for those in need are truly remarkable and we’re glad to support them in any way that we can,” says Kristen Cunningham, Director of Marketing & Communications at Cassaday & Company. “The camaraderie that is built among the Cassaday team through volunteer efforts is truly special, and the passion and excitement towards making a difference in our community is radiant and contagious! I look forward to it each and every year.”
