SOME’s Isaiah House is a therapeutic day program that provides a supportive environment for men and women who have been impacted by both homelessness and severe and persistent mental illness. Isaiah House restores hope and dignity to DC’s most vulnerable residents by offering a safe place to meet their basic needs, socialize and gain access to short-term therapy and case management. The program is centered on peer support and positive involvement and many members attend Isaiah House on a daily basis.
Isaiah House engages members through daily activities such as cooking and music classes, advocacy and art. Isaiah members recently held their annual Talent Show, which featured a wide array of skills. The audience was treated to original poetry and songs, karaoke, piano, bongos, dancing, art and comedy.
Isaiah House is an important community where members are treated with respect and are helped to stabilize their mental health by creating plans for individualized care. Long-time Isaiah House members, Mark and Don, shared how their experiences in Isaiah House and SOME changed their lives.
